WHEN: Weekly on MONDAYS, WEDNESDAYS & THURSDAYS from 10:30-11:30
Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (MCST) is an evidence-based programme aimed at people with mild to moderate dementia. It is the only non-drug treatment recommended to improve cognition, independence, and well-being by NICE.
We are running weekly sessions where members take part in meaningful and stimulating activities, which are proven to help maintain memory and mental functioning, in a friendly, fun and supportive environment. We will run face to face sessions, as well as online sessions for those who might be reluctant to attend an in-person group, or face transport issues.
Staff are specifically trained in MCST, and run a series of activities including discussions, word games, quizzes, physical, creative and musical activities.
Pilot studies have shown that MCST sessions contributed to the maintenance of group members wellbeing, related to their feelings, memory, and everyday life. These would usually be expected to decrease over time for people with dementia who don’t attend sessions.
While members are at the groups, we will also have the opportunity to introduce them to the wide variety of services that we offer, including memory group, information and advice, carers support, and much more.
If you or someone you know would benefit from this programme, please contact Veronica Doollee on veronica.doollee@ageukenfield.org.uk or call 0208 351 1131.
