Fruit & Veg for Vulnerable People 12 weeks

Zebras Children and Adults Charity

Launched in response to the outbreak of COVID-19 this activity aims to support vulnerable families with weekly food deliveries. Deliveries are made to those deemed the most vulnerable in the community who are either referred or self-referred will receive a bag of fresh fruit and vegetables on a weekly basis for 12 weeks. We then go back to our referral partners who determine who may need to remain on the list for a further 12-week cycle of support or rotate to allow for other families/individuals to come on so they can benefit from this service. When we started this project in May last year during the height of the pandemic, we had 17 families to deliver to. We now have 46 deliveries being made by myself and a team of volunteers. This is now one of our most important services as the families we support are in crisis and have children with life-limiting conditions or receiving palliative care, they are truly the most vulnerable in the borough. We get the majority of our referrals from the early intervention support service, as well as Enfield carers' centre, solace women's aid and chaseside primary school. People can self-refer too. We are also food referral agents for Enfield Food Bank so can provide vouchers if necessary.
