This group runs on Wednesdays from 9.30-12.30. Suitable for ages 18+.
As a Group overall, we actively seek to maintain and improve the park environment and facilities, in cooperation with the Council and Police, for example, by fundraising for specific projects, reporting issues to the Council, and encouraging socially responsible behavior the park-users. We try to ensure that the park is a pleasant and safe place for anyone who wishes to use it. The Wednesday Working Group works with the Council gardener maintaining the 33 rose beds and various other flower beds in the park, plus other beds in the Walled Garden, which is primarily used as a quiet area for wildlife and a secluded spot for such activities as tai chi and yoga. It is also a safe, self-contained area for children's parties and regular dog training sessions by a Kennel Club approved dog trainer. Many dogs that are exercised in the park have attended these classes and are well-behaved and safe around other dogs and people. Our Group is fully inclusive, and we have an arrangement with the local Mental Health Service for their patients to join our Wednesday Working Group as part of their therapy. Combined with volunteering, gardening is proven to be a particularly effective therapy for mental health.
